Luther 'Bill' Libby

Luther William "Bill" Libby Sr., 75, of Morehead City, N.C., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Carteret General Hospital.

Bill was born in San Diego on Feb. 27, 1938. He was a 1956 graduate of Granby High School in Norfolk, and received his undergraduate degree from Elon College and a master's in education from the University of Virginia.

Bill taught school and coached just about every high school sport for more than 35 years in Moore County, N.C., and Orange and Spotsylvania counties in Virginia.

He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was known to enjoy being outside in his garden for hours at a time. He should be remembered in the present, not past, for producing a legacy that helped prepare men and women to win graciously and to lose with dignity, not only in the games we play but in life in general.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Libby of the home; two daughters, Lori Ann Libby of Fredericksburg and Debbie Libby McGraw of Norfolk; one son, Billy Libby and wife Terri of Spotsylvania County; and three grandchildren, Libby McGraw, Madison Libby and Wil Libby.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at Munden Funeral Home Chapel in Morehead City, with family friend Timothy Coleman officiating. A memorial service will be held at Traveler's Rest Baptist Church in Spotsylvania County at a later date. A visitation will follow the service as friends are leaving.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spotsylvania High School Athletic Boosters Club, Box 1227, Spotsylvania, VA 22553. These donations will help aid student athletes in their life development.

Online condolences may be made to the family at mundenfuneralhome.net.
