John William Cain

Retired U.S. Army Master Sgt. John William Cain, 86, of Stafford County died peacefully at home on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013.

John was born Oct. 11, 1927, in Medford, Mass., to the late Harold M. and Mabel Inman. He graduated from St. Johns High School, North Cambridge, Mass. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in April 1945 and retired in 1969 as a master sergeant. John was a World War II and Korean War veteran. He worked for the Department of Defense, retiring in 1985.

John was a past governor and active member of the Chesapeake District Civitan International, past president of Rappahannock Civitan Club, past commander and active member of VFW Post 3103, and a member of American Legion Post 290 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Airie.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lottie; daughter Ellen Sharp and husband Al of Fredericksburg; sons Stephen A. and wife Debby of Greenville, Texas, and Michael H. and David W. and friend Terri Robey, all of Fredericksburg; brothers Phillip and Jay Edmond; sisters Mary Lou Kivlehan, Joan Hankins and Pauline Tucci; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Ritchie; sister Patricia Benedict; and daughter-in-law Traci.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery.
