Mary Hickle

Mary Lula Hickle, 92, former longtime resident of Stafford County went to be with the Lord Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013.

Mary was born in Rockingham County on July 31, 1921. For the last nine years Mary's home was in Rockport, Texas. She was a former member of Hull's Memorial Baptist Church in Fredericksburg.

Mary had worked as a secretary for the late W.B.F. Cole, former attorney for the Commonwealth of Virginia, from 1940-1951. From 1951 to 1965, she was the secretary for Fredericksburg Baptist Church. Mary was a primary teacher in the Spotsylvania Schools from 1965 to 1973. In 1973, she became the elementary supervisor for the Spotsylvania Schools until 1990. After retiring, Mary and her late sister Vivian traveled all over the world seeing all the places Mary loved to read about.

Mary was predeceased by her mother, Rebecca Mowry Hickle; father George W. Hickle; brother William H. Hickle; and sisters Frances H. Garland and Vivian E. Hickle.

She is survived by her nephew, William C. Garland and his wife, Connie, of Aransas Pass, Texas; niece Patricia H. Hurlock and her husband, Charles, of Virginia; nieces Frances K. Haley and Betty G. Garland, of Virginia; three great-nieces; one great-nephew; two great-great-nieces; and three great-great-nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at Trinity Church and Worship Center in Aransas Pass.

Mary will be interned at Hartwood Presbyterian Church cemetery, where a graveside service will be held at a later date to be announced.
