R. Jerrell Reed

Ralph Jerrell Reed, 80, of Colonial Beach passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at home.

Jerrell was born and lived his entire life in Colonial Beach. He retired as an ordnance mechanic from NSWC, Dahlgren. He was a life member of the Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department, a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, a Korean War veteran, having served in the 101 Airborne Division of the U.S. Army, a commercial fisherman and crabber all of his life and one of the few surviving participants of the Potomac River Oyster Wars.

Survivors include a son, Ralph Dana Reed (Cathy), and two grandchildren, Cody and Molly Reed, all of Colonial Beach.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Reed; brother Steve Reed; and sister Norma Reed.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Oak Grove, with interment following in Popes Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Baynesville.
