Mae L. Clark

Mae Luelle Shirk Clark, 85, of Fredericksburg died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mrs. Clark was born May 6, 1928, in Martinsburg, Pa., to Jacob and Verle Shriner Shirk. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fredericksburg. In addition to her family, she devoted her life to service as a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, trustee for Methodist churches in Erie, Pa., and Dumfries and the Homemakers Club of Dumfries. She was an avid and talented gardener, cook, seamstress and quilter. She also loved to travel and had visited all fifty states and numerous foreign countries.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Charles J. Clark; son Charles G. Clark of Austin, Texas, and his wife, Donna; daughter Rebecca Clark Flynt of Odenton, Md., and her husband, Raymond; daughter Barbara Clark Huang of Fairfax and her husband, G.C. Huang; granddaughter Melissa Clark Klopp of League City, Texas, and her husband, Stephen; two great-grandsons, Aaron and Jacob Klopp; two great-great-grandsons, Jacob Stephen and Skyler Klopp; sisters Mary Moore, Ina Miller (Roy) and Jane Shirk; and brother Blair Shirk (Marguerite).

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Jacob Shirk; and sisters Alma Miller and Ruth Pumphrey.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at noon at Quantico National Cemetery.
