Leon H. King

Leon H. King, 75, of Colonial Beach passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, after fighting a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

He retired from General Electric and later retired from J.E. Rice.

Leon was known for either teaching someone how to ski on his G3 or fixing someone's television, both of which he enjoyed doing. Through his kindness and giving spirit, he touched many lives.

He loved to do projects with his family from building the back garage to working on his truck. Leon was a perfectionist; therefore objects were always in pristine condition. He adored his pets; he especially loved when his bird sat on his shoulder. After a long day of being on the water fishing and crabbing, he was happy to come home and cook his catch for a get-together.

Leon is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol, whom he loved dearly; his three children, Donna VanNess Speiser, Dori Farrell (Benny), and Wade King (Kim); eight grandchildren, J.W. VanNess (Cindy), Ashley Robinson (Jon), Holly Speiser, Hallie K. Farrell, Dylan Speiser, Tabitha King, Lauren Heislup Balderson (J.B.), and Stewart Heislup; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Beverley Minor; and his extended Maryland family who loved him like a brother.

A private celebration of life was held.

Please make any memorial donations to Colonial Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Virginia for the comfort and care of Leon and his family.
