Boydton S. Brooks Sr.

Boydton Sherwood Brooks Sr., 55, transitioned peacefully to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

He was born Dec. 10, 1958, and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and ushered in his youth.

Boydton was a graduate of King George High School Class of 1977 and was an avid fan of the forever No. 1 Pittsburgh Steelers. He also coached youth in numerous sports to include his son B.J. at a very young age.

Boydton's career paths include memorable years at Oscar Tate Buick-Pontiac Inc. and Powell's Furniture in Fredericksburg, where he was a phenomenal sales associate and sales manager.

He later moved into law enforcement as a well-respected officer at the D.C. Department of Corrections, Lorton, and the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice, Culpeper Juvenile Correctional Center, where he was employed until his transition to eternal rest.

Officer Brooks was loved by many and was known as "the man who knew his stuff" as well as always offering a sense of encouragement to both the youth at the facility and his fellow officers and co-workers.

Boydton was formerly married to the Rev. Sandy Brooks, with whom he remained forever friends.

From this union one son was born, Boydton Sherwood Brooks Jr. (B.J.). In addition, he was blessed to become a father of two daughters, Brielle and Brizen Glasco.

Additionally, Boydton was formerly married to Sonya Brooks.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter H. Brooks Jr.; mother Virginia G. Brooks; brother Craig L. Brooks; and two other siblings.
