Jack Ellsworth Buttgen, 83, of Stafford County, beloved father, grandfather and uncle, died Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital.
He was born March 31, 1930, in Stafford, to Louis Buttgen and Bessie Alene MacGregor.
Jack graduated from George Washington High School in Alexandria and joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, Although he didn't serve in that country, Jack was quick to say, "I fought the Battle of New Jersey."
Jack was a member of the Matthew Fontaine Maury Camp 1722 Sons of Confederate Veterans and Major General John Bankhead Magruder Chapter 258 Military Order of the Stars & Bars.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond K. O'Connor of Arlington and Robert L. O'Connor of Spotsylvania County; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Margarete Ludmilla Buttgen.
Jack's family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Mary Washington Home Health & Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, VA 22407.
Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Fredericksburg is handling the arrangements, which are incomplete at this time.
