This week is Teacher Appreciation Week. If you are able to read this letter, it is time to stop and think about the people who made that possible.
Whether you are a lawyer, doctor, mechanic, business owner, truck driver, Marine, government employee, president of the U.S., entrepreneur or newspaper editor, you have been created by many collective teachers.
This is the time of year when you can write a note, send an email, make a phone call, Tweet or Facebook message teachers to let them know how much they have impacted your life.
True educators--the ones who immediately come to mind as you read this letter--don't do what they do for the money, the glory or even the thanks. We do what we do because we know we are serving a higher purpose than ourselves. We are making the world a better place, one child at a time.
Let's not forget to also thank the custodians, maintenance workers, cafeteria workers, administrative assistants and bus drivers for sacrificing so much to join in the great cause of educating children.
Please take the time this week to thank the people who make all other professions possible. Thank the teachers who have helped make you who you are today!
The writer is principal, Conway Elementary School.
