Gene Covert

Gene Covert, 73, of Fredericksburg passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014.

Mr. Covert was born July 11, 1940, in Washington, D.C. He retired in 2006, after 32 years of working for Bill Page Honda, in Falls Church, and he worked his way from apprentice butcher to the meat manager in an additional career with Giant Foods.

He was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, an avid fisherman and music lover. His first passion for fast cars and motorcycles remained a part of him, his entire life, and was eclipsed only by his love of his family-most importantly his children.

Gene was known for his generosity and his unfaltering selflessness in helping others. He touched many and never asked for anything in return. While he always put his family before himself, he also never failed to extend a helping hand to anyone in need.

When spending time with Gene, there was never a chance for a lull in the conversation. He always had an interesting story to share, and could make a friend in any room.

His legacy will be the values, integrity, work ethic and devotion he instilled in his family and friends. He took great pride in their many accomplishments, and he will be an inspiration for many more to come.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Covert; daughter Terri Good and son-in-law Richard Good; son Jeffrey Covert and daughter-in-law Jacqueline Covert; daughter-in-law Teresa Navo; grandchildren Christopher Good, Timothy Good and Elizabeth Good; Jason Covert, Michael Covert and Caden Navo; Nico Covert and Ian Covert; and great-grandchildren Morgan and Logan Good, and Aiden and Jacob Himeon, and Mason and Blake Good; and one brother, Robert Covert. He is also survived by his darling Yorkie, Scarlett.

He was preceded in death by his oldest son, David Covert; sisters Leola Covert, Audrey Oppenheim, Lois Weaver and Carole Covert; and brothers John Covert, Lawrence Covert and William Covert.

A reception in Gene's honor will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at the Ladysmith Village Residence Club, 17290 Library Blvd., Ruther Glen, VA 22546

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, at heart.org or St. Jude Children's Hospital at stjude.org.
