Robert J. Boyd III

Robert Johnston Boyd III, 59, formerly of Lake of the Woods and Fredericksburg, died from a heart attack Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at his home in Leland, N.C.

Rob graduated with a bachelor's degree from Mary Washington College in 1987.

He was co-founder of the disAbility Resource Center in Fredericksburg.

Rob didn't let a back injury, which left him paralyzed from the waist down, stop him from becoming the 1995 U.S. Indoor and Outdoor Champion in wheelchair tennis.

He was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Robert J. Boyd Jr.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Gibson Boyd of Richmond; his brother, Scott Chambers Boyd, his wife, Kris, and their daughter, Charlene, all of Fredericksburg; his daughter, Lindsey Boyd Osborn, her husband, Jonathan, and their two children, James and Emily Osborn, all of Virginia Beach; nine cousins; and his beloved Linda Bose of Leland, N.C.

His ashes will be interred beside those of his father following a memorial service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg.
