Marian K. Tyler

Marian Karsten Tyler, 97, a lifelong resident of Fredericksburg, died on Thursday, July 31, 2014. She was predeceased by her parents, Paul Karsten Jr. and Grace Piercy Karsten; her husband, G. McNeale Tyler; and a sister, Grace Karsten Verburg.

Survivors include daughters McNeale Tyler Smith (Dr. Gerry Weinberger) of Doswell and Sally Tyler Carter (Dr. Steven L. Carter) of Charlottesville; son-in-law Turner T. Smith Jr. (Christine Purdue) of Middleburg; three grandsons, T. Taliaferro Smith III of Atlanta, Ga., John Webb Tyler Smith (Claire Marie Turner) of Bluffton, S.C., and Lewis McNeale Carter of Richmond; and one beloved great-granddaughter, Tyler Smith of Atlanta. Also surviving her are nephews Burt Verburg (Nancy) of Stafford County and Paul Karsten Verburg (Jackie) of Virginia Beach; and a niece, Grace Carol Verburg of Charlottesville.

The family wishes to give special thanks for the wonderful care given to our mother over the past 18 months to One-on-One Care, Greenfield Assisted Living Facility of Fredericksburg, Mary Cook and Grace Lufu, the nurses and doctors of Mary Washington Hospital's ER, Cardiac, Palliative and Hospice Care units and her physicians, Drs. Patrick McManus and Daniel Woodford.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be given to Trinity Episcopal Church, 825 College Ave., Fredericksburg, VA 22401 or to the Fredericksburg SPCA, 10819 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22408.
