Dozens of rescue workers searched through the night and today for a Spotsylvania County teen-ager and her younger sister missing since yesterday afternoon.

Police have not yet said they suspect foul play, but clearly it is a possibility.

"We're very concerned," Capt. Pat Sullins of the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office said this morning. "From all indications, these girls are happy and well-adjusted and had no reason to run away."

Kristin Michelle Lisk, 15, is a student at Spotsylvania High School. Kati Nicole Lisk, 12, attends Spotsylvania Middle School. Both are honor roll students who are active in the youth group at Goshen Baptist Church.

Both girls disappeared yesterday shortly after getting off county school buses near their home in the 9000 block of Block House Road.

Their book bags and all their personal belongings were home, but the girls were gone when their father got home at about 4 p.m., Sullins said. Neither girl has ever run away before, police said.

According to Sullins, police have confirmed that the girls were let off at their bus stop on nearby Brock Road after school yesterday.

Their father, Ronald Lisk, called home at about 3 p.m. to check on the girls but got no answer. He tried several more times before getting home at about 4 p.m., Sullins said.

The girls' mother, Patricia Lisk, is a nursing instructor at Germanna Community College.

After he got home, Ronald Lisk immediately began calling the girls' friends, Sullins said. He also called the school to make sure they had ridden the buses home.

Lisk called police shortly after 5 p.m., and a search began immediately, Sullins said.

Deputies, firefighters, rescue squad workers and a number of search dogs spent the night looking for the sisters. A state police helicopter was also used in the overnight search.

The search resumed at daybreak today, Sullins said. "Everybody is sitting here with their fingers crossed hoping that this has a happy ending," she said.

Kristin Lisk was believed to be wearing a white Töshirt with Soldiers of the Cross printed on front and Goshen Baptist Church on the back. She was wearing blue jeans and black tennis shoes. She is 5 feet 8 inches tall and about 90 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

Kati Lisk was believed to be wearing a white Töshirt with a design on the front, blue jean shorts and green-and-white tennis shoes. She is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs between 75 and 80 pounds. She also has brown hair and brown eyes.

There was no sign of a struggle at the house, Sullins said. One book bag was in the house, while the other was in the front yard with a math book lying several feet away.

At the two schools this morning, concern was evident. Principals at both schools said that counselors have been busy tending to upset classmates.

"We're trying to be positive for the kids," said Walter P. McWhirt, principal at Spotsylvania Middle School. "But this is scary."

McWhirt said both girls are well-liked and never in trouble. "We're talking good kids here," McWhirt said. "Our hopes and prayers are with the family."

McWhirt said a number of parents have called the school this morning to make arrangements for their children to go to someone else's house after school today. McWhirt said there are a number of middle school students who are at home alone for short periods in the afternoon until one of their parents arrives.

Several people this morning said one reason tensions are so high is the Sofia Silva case. Sofia, a 16-year-old Courtland High School student, disappeared last year after getting home from school. Her body was later found in King George County.
