Police have suspect list in murder
Supervisors offer $5,000 reward
Spotsylvania County police have about a dozen suspects in the slaying of 16-year-old Sofia Silva, said Lt. Mike Timm of the county Sheriff's Office.

Timm said this morning that police haven't narrowed down that list yet. He wouldn't give further details.

He also said that police are still waiting for test results to determine the cause of Sofia's death.

"Our homicide ranks no more important to the forensics lab than anyone else's," he said, referring to the state medical examiner's office in Richmond. It is backed up with cases from around the state.

Sofia's body was found two weeks ago in King George County, five weeks after she disappeared from the front porch of her family's Oak Grove Terrace home in Spotsylvania.

The Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors has gotten involved with trying to find her killer.

The board unanimously approved a $5,000 reward last week for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever was involved.

Supervisor Emmitt Marshall suggested the proposal.

The money will be added to the $1,000 reward sponsored by the county's Crime Solvers program.

The board also directed County Administrator Kim Payne to write a letter to other area localities urging their contributions to the fund.

Anyone with more information may call Crime Solvers at 582-5822.
