Sweet 16 party turns deadly
Teen killed, another injured in Caroline shooting.
Date published: 11/11/2007

By CATHY DYSON

One teenager was killed and another was wounded by gunfire during a Sweet 16 birthday party in Caroline County last night.

The suspect arrested—Lashawn Montque Monroe, 22, of Ruther Glen—also was charged the last time a party erupted into violence in Caroline.

That was in September 2004, when eight people were stabbed and two were shot during an early morning gathering at the Dawn Progressive Center.

In 2004, Monroe was charged with having a concealed weapon, but the charge was later dropped.

This weekend, he was charged with murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Caroline authorities responded to a call about a shooting at the Madison Ruritan Club building in Ladysmith Saturday about 11:06 p.m.

They found a 16-year-old victim on the ground in the parking lot, about 30 yards from the front door, according to Sheriff Tony Lippa.

He didn’t specify if the victim was the birthday honoree or a guest.

Another teen, 15, showed up at Mary Washington Hospital with a gunshot wound.

Lippa said the two shootings are related and the investigation continues.

i apparently have inflicted some serious wounds in the county information control machine. There is a campaign under way to discredit and silence with slander and liable. So spelling corrections are no big deal. Thxs for bringing it to my attention. That's how we GROW and GET BETTER by making mistakes and being critiqued. thxs again for reading

If all you got is Grammar correction (posted by ProudMomOf2 , Nov. 12, 2007 11:26 am)    0 likes
Sorry, I agree with Tom James. If the previous offense had been handled different maybe a 16 year old boy would have the chance to grow up and show the world what he was made of. Who cares if Mr. James has the proper spelling we all know what he means.

If TOm James knew what he was talking about he'd be DANGEROUS (posted by WoodinVirginia , Nov. 12, 2007 8:25 am)    0 likes
The word is 'Nolle Prosequi' or "Nol Pros" ; which is Proof Positive in your case that a little education & not a complete education may be more harm than good. Please go back to school Tom Jones and get your GED; you are the biggest flapper in Caroline county. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nolle_prosequi
