The former Catholic priest who pleaded guilty last year to wiring money
embezzled from two Louisa County churches could serve up to 40 years in
prison on two federal convictions.
But at Rodney Rodis’ sentencing tomorrow, federal prosecutors are expected to recommend 51 months. Rodis, 51, pleaded guilty to one count each of mail fraud and money laundering in a plea agreement last October. According to a written position on sentencing factors filed last week, federal prosecutors will be asking for 51 months in prison, which they argue is on the higher end of the sentencing guidelines. Rodis’ charges stemmed from an estimated $1 million stolen from the two Louisa churches, Immaculate Conception and St. Jude. The money is said to have then been wired to family in the Philippines and used to purchase property there. -Ellen Biltz
