Police brief Date published: 7/21/2008
A Madison County woman accused of passing herself off as a Red Cross worker has been charged with obtaining goods by false pretenses.
According to Culpeper town police, 57-year-old Mary Lou Knighting is accused of removing several pickup loads of furniture and household goods from the West Cameron Street apartment of a woman whose health was deteriorating. Knighting was contacted by the woman’s daughter in Michigan, who reported that Knighting told her she worked for the Red Cross and would store the items for some needy family, police said. When the daughter in Michigan did not receive a Red Cross receipt, she contacted the Red Cross and was told that Knighting was not listed as an employee or a volunteer, police said. Following an investigation, Knighting turned herself in to the police on Saturday and was later released on a $2,500 bond. —Donnie Johnston
If the FLS and Tidewater area newspapers didn't report on Culpeper, We (Culpeper residents) would have no news all. Culpeper papers are full of STORIES written by "writers", not reporters.. Journalism was once "Being a voice for the voiceless", but now if you call for some investigation to be made public, your told..... "write an editorial letter" and send it in so they have no liability for truth or opinion. Papers from Culpeper are trash!
If I was looking to move to this area, i don't think I would pick culpepper, as there seems to be many more stories about crime there than culpeppers larger neighbors, fred, spotsy, and stafford.
The FLS delivers to Culpeper and they SHOULD have stories in the paper. And if you didn't know, Donnie Johnston does live in Culpeper. I think you will find LOTS of local stories in the paper. Find something worthy of complaining about!!
Funny how I see police all over Fredericksburg, Spotsy, and
Stafford, yet all of these interesting reports seem to come
out of Culpepper. FLS- you can not possibly tell me that
Donnie Johnston is the only one that works these stories
and happens to live in Culpepper? Get with it and cover
the local news to Fredericksburg.
