Glitch delays VRE this morning

July 22, 2008 12:00 am

CSX communication system breakdown affects local commuter rail service. Virginia Railway Express trains were severely delayed this morning after CSX’s Bulletin System went down around 6:30 a.m. Trains were unable to receive track orders, according to the VRE. CSX Corp. owns the tracks used by VRE trains.

Trains on the Fredericksburg and Manassas lines were affected, and VRE urged passengers to make alternate arrangements. VRE allowed passengers to use their VRE tickets on Metrorail as an alternative.

The CSX Bulletin System was restored around 7:50 a.m. A longer-than-usual VRE train with 11 cars departed Fredericksburg after the system was restored to bring passengers to Northern Virginia and Washington.
