July 1987: Bill Johnson installs a disk pack into the MK 98-0 Magnetic Disk File (MDF) to perform disk verification in the new computer area of building 1200. Since 1956, NSWC has supported the Strategic System's Project Office (SSP) in providing full lifecycle support for all generations of the Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) program from Polaris A1 to Trident II D5. NSWC employees conduct R and D in materials for reentry body nose tips, work with the SLBM government-contractor team to define weapon system requirements, develop and test computational algorithms and software for weapons control and weapon system mission planning.
