1945: The "Dahlgren Train" ran between Fredericksburg and Dahlgren. Ready for use in 1942. It was important that nothing impede the flow of guns from the gun factory in Washington to the Naval Proving Grounds at Dahlgren. The line lasted until 1957 and sat idle until1963 when it was declared surplus. The RF&P purchased the Dahlgren Railroad from the government in 1965.
