The advent of more advanced, faster, and heavier aircraft during World War II led BUORD to develop 3-inch, 50-caliber anti-aircraft guns, which did not enter service until the late 1940s. This 3-inch gun was installed at Dahlgren in 1952 for testing. (Dahlgren Historic Photograph Collection) |
