Witnesses to the shooting said the two men got into an altercation after the trip. Date published: 12/17/2008
The murder charge against a Beaverdam man accused of killing a fellow hunter was reinstated today.
John Wayne Peck, 29, turned himself over to police following a direct indictment by a Caroline County Grand Jury, said Caroline County Commonwealth’s Attorney Tony Spencer. Peck, who is also charged with possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, will be out of jail on a $100,000 bond, Spencer said. The charges had previously been nolle prossed as a way of delaying the trial. Peck’s charges stem from the shooting of Jerry Curtis Beverly Beverly, 61, after he and Peck returned from a hunting day-trip with a group of men. Witnesses to the shooting said the two men got into an altercation after the trip. Peck is set to be arraigned on the reinstated charges Jan. 7. -Ellen Biltz
