Police said today that the drivers of a dirt bike and ATV that collided yesterday were operating the vehicles illegally on a state-maintained road and driving at high rates of speed when they collided, killing one teen.
The passenger of the dirt bike, who died at the scene of the crash, has been identified as 19-year-old Justin Krombholtz of Lake of the Woods, said 1st Sgt. Liz Scott of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.
The driver of the dirt bike, also 19, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Scott said. The teen, of Towles Mill Road, has not been identified.
The driver of the ATV with which the dirt bike collided around 5:30 p.m. yesterday, is an 18-year-old man also of Towles Mill Road. Scott said that teen suffered life-threatening head injuries and thoracic trauma and is listed at Mary Washington Hospital. He also has not been identified.

As I posted much earlier in this discussion...Yes, there are laws. And the authorities need to enforce them to the fullest and ensure that when the rules are broken they actively and consistanly show that it will not be tolerated. Unfortunately, it also becomes the responsibility of the parents to enforce them in their homes with their children. Young people take risks, they are invincible... the parents must be vigilant.
However, it is the responsibility of Law Enforcement no matter how lowly the offense

This ISN'T about law enforcement or Public Safety, it is about personal responsibility and being responsible for your own actions. No amount of law, legislation or law enforcement can protect us from our own reckless acts, nor should it. Parents have to assume some responsibility as do the friends and neighbors who witness these acts and do nothing about it. Law enforcement can't be everywhere and even if they could they should be focused on felony activity, not misdemeanors and torts from dirt bikes.
What I came here to say...

Has anyone been watching the news?
Another young man (15) just passed away from an accident on an ATV.
Today there was another article, another young man (17)... again an ATV.
Who is watching, and what are the laws... what is the problem that can not seem to be fixed?
Where are you people coming from

Are you just know it alls that need to feel important or knowledgeable? Or perhaps do you just love to hear yourselves talk? The discussion was regarding laws and enforcement... why did this become a discussion of Justin? Was he perfect, NO. Was he working on his issues, YES. Had he made a committment to his young daughter, YES. Was he working, YES. Was he trying to avoid the BS and egotistical crap we all have to deal with here at LOW, YES. WOW he wa Growing Up... now maybe you should as well.

It is a shame to die and be remembered only as "fun loving". The friends of this young person should, I think, ask :how did Justin's neighbors, LOW Security, and the Orange County Sheriff view Justin? Your lives should account for more that just loving fun, how do you help others? As tragic as the death of Justin was lets hope some meaningful lesson can come from his life and that one or two of his friends can fulfill a higher lesson by helping and respecting every person and their property.
