The loud booming noises heard around the Fredericksburg and North Stafford areas this morning were part of training exercises at the Quantico Marine Corps Base.

The Marines were training with 500-pound bombs and howitzers on the post, Quantico officials said.

And more noise will be coming from training there omorrow, officials said.

The explosions caused many to call 911 operators in the area, too.

Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg police spokeswoman, said dispatchers in the city received about 15 to 20 calls, starting about 7 a.m.
