Man struck by car in Spotsy

A man carrying a case of beer was struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening in the 5300 block of Jefferson Davis Highway in Spotsylvania, police said.

Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Eddie Peck said the accident occurred at 7:20 p.m. at Market Street and U.S. 1. A 41-year-old man was crossing from the north side when he was hit by a 2003 SAAB sedan.

The victim was taken to Mary Washington Hospital and treated for non life-threatening injuries. Witnesses said he stepped into the southbound lanes without looking or stopping.

The 23-year-old driver was charged with reckless driving. He told police he was slowing for a red light and did not have time to react.
