I-95 Traffic: 20-Mile Backup
Nov. 25, 2009 1:48 pm
It just keeps getting worse on Interstate 95 south today. Traffic on I-95 south is moving very, very slowly as everyone gets out of school and work early. At 3:30 p.m. the Virginia Department of Transportation website 511Virginia, under "Road Conditions," showed severe delays on I-95 south near Exit 163 Lorton, and reported a 20 MILE backup. That is 2-0, twenty. There is also heavy congestion in the southbound HOV lanes from Dale City to State Route 234. That tidal wave of traffic is headed for the Fredericksburg area, and will likely keep coming for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Locally, an 8-mile backup is reported on I-95 south near mile marker 148 at Quantico Marine Corps Base, and a 3-mile backup is reported on I-95 south at mile marker 132 between U.S. 17 and State Route 3. Check 511 before leaving the house, or call 511 from your cellphone for updates on the road.
