Monroe District residents will vote at new precinct

Oct. 29, 2009 1:27 pm

Residents of the James Monroe District will vote at a new polling place this year: the old King George High School.
The county agreed in May to move the polling place from the King George Middle School on State Route 206 to the old high school. During last year’s election, voters had trouble finding parking spaces and many vehicles ended up on the road’s narrow shoulder. Registrar Lorrie Gump said the move would be safer and more convenient for residents.
James Monroe is the largest of five precincts in King George. It has more than one-third of the county’s 13,615 registered voters. Here’s a precinct breakdown:
Courthouse: 2,244
Passapatanzy: 1,206
Monroe: 4,641
Dahlgren: 2,569
Shiloh: 2,955
James Monroe also has the only contested race for a Board of Supervisors seat. John LoBuglio and Billy McCoy Jr. are challenging James Howard for the post he’s held for the past 10 years.
