Eligibility: This
contest is open to students in grades 6–12 who
live or attend school within The Free Lance–Star readership area.
Limit: One
entry per student per category.
Entries
must be original, not previously published.
Teachers: If
submitting entries as a class assignment, please submit only entries that meet the guidelines for publication. Screen for plagiarism to the best of your ability.

– Personal columns, feature stories, commentary:
Maximum length, 500 words. Type, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins and
12- point or larger font size.
Submit via e-mail as attached Word document, or mail or hand-deliver
on 8 1⁄2-x-11-inch white paper
– Editorial cartoons and comic strips:
Hand-draw in dark pencil or black ink on 8 1⁄2-x-11-inch white paper. Color
is optional.
Submit original by mail or hand-deliver. Please do not fold paper.
– Photography:
Submit digital photo via e-mail as attached, high-resolution jpeg file
– Ad Design:
Hand-drawn sketch – draw in dark pencil or ink on 8 1⁄2-by-11-inch
white paper.
Submit original by mail or hand-deliver. Please do not fold paper.
Computer-Generated Ad – Create ad to fit within a border of 5 1⁄2-
inches wide by 5 1⁄2-inches high. You may use color and copyright-free
clip art and photos.
Submit via e-mail as a high-resolution PDF file.
– Video or Audio Slide Show of News or Feature Story:
Format: maximum length, 3 minutes. maximum slides: 20
Acceptable formats:
· PREFERRED: Upload to YouTube and send link
· Flash SWF (link to your own site where the SWF is posted - preferred)
· QuickTime .MOV file
· MPEG-4, AVI or WMV, or FLV
Not acceptable: Videos on disc or tape; DVD .TS files or .ISO; cell phone
video formats (.3gp, etc)
Submit: preferred–send link to uploaded entry; or send attached file
– Blog:
Format: must contain a minimum of ten posts over a 30-day period.
