Fredericksburg.com shifted to a new web design Monday afternoon that The Free Lance–Star hopes will provide a better online experience for readers.

Publisher Gene Carr said the site will do that through new features and an updated look that will serve readers across a variety of electronic devices.

He said fredericksburg .com remains “first and foremost, the most comprehensive site serving the region for news, information, events and advertising content” and now offers “the ability to interact with readers and advertisers 24 hours a day.”

The new site will allow The Free Lance–Star to expand its online offerings to include more video and easier access to more goods and services.

Carr said it will also allow the paper’s advertisers to better partner with what is already the region’s largest local website.

The Free Lance–Star partnered with Town News, a content management system provider, on the site.

Town News has worked with numerous newspapers across the nation, and Carr has used the company’s services before.

He praised the work of the fredericksburg.com redesign team, which was led by Editor Phil Jenkins.

“I am very proud of Phil and the entire team that has created a great new site for our readers,” he said.
