The Guadalupe Free Clinic of Colonial Beach recently received a $70,000 grant from Mary Washington Hospital Foundation’s Community Benefit Fund.

The grant is being used to defray operating costs and purchase medications for clinic patients from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018. On average, every $1,000 donated to the clinic generates nearly $12,000 in free healthcare.

The clinic is an outreach effort of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, and is supported solely by grants and private donations. It recently celebrated 12 years of providing more than $13 million in free medical care and prescription medications for the poor and uninsured residents of Colonial Beach and Westmoreland County. MWH has been a supporter since its opening in May 2005.

The Guadalupe Free Clinic of Colonial Beach is located on the grounds of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, and is operated by a small staff and many volunteers. In the last fiscal year, it served 254 patients, 61 of whom were first time visits.
