The Hagerstown Civil War Round Table will be featuring a talk on JEB Stuart’s famous ride around the Union army. The talk will be by John Fox. On June 10, 1862, Robert E. Lee told Jeb Stuart to assemble his men and reconnoiter the right flank of the Army of the Potomac under the command of George McClellan on the Virginia peninsula. The flamboyant cavalryman didn't take much time in proposing a complete circuit around the Union Army. His three-day expedition was a complete success: It made the huge Army of the Potomac look like an inept and bumbling giant, and the intelligence he gathered would prove vital as General Lee plotted his next move: a massive attack against McClellan’s forces, a move that would push the Union back on its heels for months.

The event is at 7:30 pm on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Homewood Suites, 1650 Pullman Lane Hagerstown, MD. Dinner at 6:30 pm, open to non-members as well as members, is $22 (reservations required) and the talk at 7:30 pm is $5 for non-members, both payable at the meeting.
