The Fredericksburg Area Museum (FAM) is excited to announce that it will continue its Second Saturday program all throughout 2019. Second Saturdays at the Museum is a regularly scheduled family program that includes hands-on activities, and an opportunity to explore the Museum’s exhibits.  The program is held on the second Saturday of each month from 11 AM - 12 PM,  and encourages visitors to discover something new within the FAM’s collection and explore a new piece of Fredericksburg’s history each month. Second Saturdays will be FREE and open to the public. Our focus for each month will be: 


February 9th: Go behind the scenes and see what it takes to design an exhibit! Families will tour FAM, get a sneak peak of the new exhibits and create their own exhibit model.


March 9th: Explore FAM’s new exhibit “People & Their Pets!” Families will then create pet toys for Fredericksburg SCPA (


April 13th: Learn about the effects of rainfall and hear stories from the 1942 Fredericksburg Flood. Families will decorate a rain gauge for their home.


May 11th: Celebrate African culture and dance!  Come and see a performance from the Taritibu Youth Association (


June 8th: Explore the history and science behind Fredericksburg bridges. Families will become engineers and use their knowledge of force, material strength, and bridge types to develop their own bridge! 


July 13th Celebrate Bastille Day! Families will learn about Fredericksburg’s French connections and Frejus, Fredericksburg’s French sister city.


August 10th: Celebrate the Spirit of ‘45 Day! Learn about how the Fredericksburg community came together during WWII. (


September 14th: Get ready for Pizza Palooza in Market Square! Learn about Italian culture and create crafts inspired by Fredericksburg’s Italian Sister City, Este.


October 12th Discover Fredericksburg’s African connections! Learn about Fredericksburg’s Ghanaian sister city, Prince’s Town and the Kundum festival.


November 9th: Explore Nepal! Participate in activities and crafts inspired by Fredericksburg’s newest Sister City, Kathmandu.


December 14th: Celebrate the holidays season! Learn about German holiday traditions and Fredericksburg’s German sister city, Schwetzingen.
