Artwork from Spotsylvania County elementary students has provided a cheerful touch to corridors at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center.

This school year, Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center has partnered with Spotsylvania County Public Schools to display student artwork in several departments, fostering a cheerful and open environment. “It is truly enjoyed by patients and their families,” said David McKnight, CEO of the Spotsylvania hospital.

The program has featured art from Riverview Elementary, Brock Road Elementary and Wilderness Elementary schools. Public recognition of students’ creativity and skills in the visual arts is often the catalyst for children to explore the arts as a lifelong career, said Katrina Neagley, the school system’s fine arts liaison who coordinates the display program at the hospital.

Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center will host a celebration for the young artists and their families next month. Each student will receive a certificate and a designed by local artist, Johnna Hetrick, of Twila & Co.
