A former Virginia state trooper with 12 years on the force has been arrested and accused of possessing child pornography.
Justin Brant Hipps, 35, of Covington was taken into custody April 5 by Virginia State Police investigators and charged with one count of the Class 6 felony, according to state police spokesman Sgt. Rick Garletts.
No information about the investigation or the circumstances of the charge was released.
Hipps was hired in February 2007 and assigned as a trooper to the Salem Division but is no longer employed by the department, Garletts said.
He said Hipps was terminated the same day as his arrest.
Hipps is being held in the Alleghany County Jail, and online records show his next court date is an April 16 bond hearing.
A lawyer listed in court records as his attorney could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
