The man found dead on the side of a southern Stafford County road over the weekend had still not been identified as of Monday night.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Amanda Vicinanzo said detectives are working “around the clock,” but still don’t know the name of Stafford’s first homicide victim of the year.
“We are committed to solving this case and ask anyone who may have information to come forward and contact the Sheriff’s Office as soon as possible,” Vicinanzo said.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was driving along River Road near the Rappahannock River about 4:30 a.m. Saturday when he noticed a body on the side of the road. Authorities quickly determined that the man was the victim of a homicide, but so far have not said how the man died.
The road was closed all day Saturday as the Sheriff’s Office investigated the crime scene.
The only clue to the man’s identity released so far is a picture of a distinctive tattoo on the victim’s left forearm. The tattoo was described as a female “shushing” with a finger over her lips and a blindfold over her eyes and ears. There is also a design with Roman numerals at the top of the tattoo.
Vicinanzo said investigators have received numerous calls from the public since the release of the photograph and detectives are continuing to follow up every lead.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 540/658-4400.
