Lois Vants Harris, 93, of Spotsylvania passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2019 with her loving and devoted daughter, Beverly at her side. She closed her eyes around 4 p.m. and when she opened them again she was looking into the face of our Lord. Lois was born on April 11, 1925 to the late Clark and Marion Dickinson Vants. Her father died when she was only seven, and as the oldest of five children, during the depression era, she shouldered a huge responsibility for such a young child, helping her single mother care for the younger ones. She started working at an early age to help her mother financially and to allow her siblings to remain in school. Lois married the love of her life, Durwood Harris, on May 15, 1943 and together they reared three daughters. Sadly, her heart was broken when he died in December 2003. Lois worked incredibly hard while raising a family, and was always so full of life. She was a lifelong member of Zion United Methodist Church at historic Spotsylvania Courthouse, where she was active as a choir member, in Bible school, and helping with bake sales and other church activities. Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Beverly Donald of Fredericksburg, Jacqueline Thaler of Norfolk and Karen Eroh (Michael) of King George; five grandchildren Thomas Coleman, Michael Coleman, Jacqueline Shea Ipock, John McGee, Jr. and Jennifer Bullock; 13 great-grandchildren; sister Hilda Lacapa of Stafford; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved and cherished. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years; brother Reginald Vants; and sisters Audrey Luck and Evelyn Parrott. Lois was a kind and humble person who was greatly loved and will be dearly missed. Our family would like to express our deep appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Fredericksburg Assisted Living and Fredericksburg Health and Rehab for their care and kindness for mom. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Barbara Jacobs officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Lois's name. Online guestbook available online at covenantfuneralservice.com.
