Cancer center HAS symposium on treatments
More than 70 physicians, nurses and other health-care providers from the region took part in Mary Washington Healthcare Regional Cancer Center’s inaugural oncology symposium on Oct. 14.
“Understanding the Advancing Treatments and Integrative Approach to Cancer Care in the Fredericksburg Region” featured a keynote presentation on the advancing role of genetics and immunotherapy in cancer care. In addition, the program offered a review of recent advances in breast and lung cancer treatments, discussions about screening guidelines, cancer prevention and post-treatment care.
Sponsors were pleased with the response, said Charles Maurer, chairman of the center’s cancer committee.
“Advancing caregiver expertise is essential to providing patients with the best possible care, and the symposium format makes information highly accessible with excellent opportunities for idea exchange,” he said.
Presenters included oncologists, radiologists, surgeons and nurse navigators. Participants were eligible for continuing education credits through Virginia Commonwealth University.
