Spotsylvania Education Foundation raises money with Scholar Bowl

The Spotsylvania Education Foundation Scholar Bowl bowling tournament sponsored by Sonic Drive-In, Atlantic Builders, Bowling Franklin & Co., Moseley Architects, Spotsylvania Education Association, Zenith Aviation, Simply Home, Touchstone Learning & Leadership and D/B/A Organization Direct, was held Feb. 6 at Liberty Lanes in Spotsylvania County.

This event raised more than $6,000 for great educational programs that support Spotsylvania students, teachers and schools.

A total of 29 teams participated in this event. Teams were sponsored by businesses, individuals and school organizations. Donated gifts were raffled off throughout the morning, and direct sale vendors offered items for sale throughout the entire event.

Bowlers of different skills and abilities had a great time having fun, bowling, and socializing.

The high male bowler was Bill Ball from John Jay Wright Educational and Cultural Center. The high female bowler was Vanessa Sullivan from Lee Hill Elementary School. The high male student bowler was Ty Lowe from Spotsylvania Middle School. The high female student bowler was Anna Lisa Henzier from Spotsylvania Middle School. The first-place team was from Battlefield Middle School and was sponsored by Checkers of Fredericksburg. Team members were Jackie Durr, Mike Karston, Perry Clark and Henry Thode.

The second-place team was from Riverbend High School and sponsored by Lori G. Horstick of Century 21 Realty. Team members were Marta Ansley, Kevin Bywaters, Kathy Rose and Tim Knappenburger.

The third-place team was from Lee Hill Elementary School and was sponsored by Sonic Drive-In. Team members were Vanessa Sullivan, Mary Maynard, Susan Mahin, Emily Facett and Kelly Pretts.

The Spotsylvania Education Foundation would like to thank all of the local businesses, organizations, and individuals that sponsored the tournament, sponsored teams, donated prizes, and participated in this event.

Their generosity enables the foundation to support efforts to enhance the quality of student learning experience in Spotsylvania County.

The foundation also would like to thank all of the participants in this event. Their joy, laughter, and groans ensured that this event was a success.

The Spotsylvania Education Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, provides grants and scholarship opportunities to enhance the quality of education in Spotsylvania County Public Schools.

Upcoming Spotsylvania Education Foundation events include the SAGE Teacher of the Year Banquet on May 6, and the annual Golf Tournament on June 20.
