Update: Courthouse Road and the interchange had reopened as of 8 p.m. Saturday.
Update: VDOT expects the closures to continue until at least 6 p.m.
Crews from VDOT and Dominion Energy are on scene replacing the damaged signal structures and repairing downed power lines at the interchange. Earlier today, VDOT structure and bridge inspectors conducted an inspection of the I-95 bridge over Courthouse Road and found no structural damage to the bridge.
The damage was caused by an earlier truck crash on Route 630 that struck the overhead power lines, signal structure and the I-95 bridge over Courthouse Road.
Original post: The Interstate 95/Courthouse Road exchange in Stafford County has been closed because of an accident.
The single-car crash was reported around 6 a.m. The Virginia Department of Transportation says Courthouse Road has been closed in both directions in the interstate area and all I-95 ramps northbound and southbound at Exit 140 have been closed as well. VDOT said the closings are expected to last several hours.
Bridge inspectors, traffic signal technicians and Dominion Power crews are on scene to inspect structures and repair downed power lines, according to VDOT.
Motorists are being urged to find alternative routes. Those driving on I-95 who need to get off at Courthouse Road should use Exit 136/Centreport Parkway or Exit 143/Garrisonville Road instead.
