A wintry mix of weather could impact the afternoon commute from Northern Virginia to the Fredericksburg area Tuesday.
The National Weather Service predicts possible snow and rain in the Fredericksburg area today. Temperatures will drop and the precipitation likely will turn into snow overnight, amounting to about a half inch. The precipitation could be more snow and ice up north, which means commuters might be leaving work early.
The Virginia Department of Transportation warned drivers of the possible winter weather and to prepare to leave early. Area crews were mobilized at midnight to monitor and treat roads if necessary.
The Virginia Railway Express commuter train service will run longer trains to “accommodate the anticipated larger volume of early afternoon riders due to the upcoming weather event,” according to an alert.
