The Virginia Department of Health reported Friday that the state has 28,672 COVID-19 cases, an increase of more than 850 over the 27,813 reported Thursday.
The 28,672 cases include 27,293 confirmed cases and 1,379 probable cases.
The state health department also reported 22 more COVID-19 deaths for a total of 977, 944 of which are confirmed and 33 probable.
Probable cases are people who are symptomatic with a known exposure to COVID-19, but have not been confirmed with a positive test.
The VDH said there have been 3,657 hospitalizations.
