Funeral arrangements for Trooper Lucas B. Dowell, who was killed in the line of duty this week, have been announced by the Virginia State Police.
The public is welcome to attend the visitation and funeral service, police said.
Dowell, 28, was assisting in a drug investigation on Monday when he was fatally wounded in a shootout that also left the suspect dead just outside Farmville. He was helping the Piedmont Regional Drug and Gang Task Force execute a search warrant at a home in Cumberland County.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Chilhowie Christian Church, 172 Apple Valley Road in Chilhowie.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. also at Chilhowie Christian Church.
Interment will follow, as well as a reception for family, friends and law enforcement, police said.
The Dowell family has asked for condolences to be sent to the VSP Public Relations Office (PRO) at P.O. Box 27472, Richmond, VA 23261. Condolences can also be made online at www.williamsfuneral homeofchilhowie.com.
