Edward T. Carter of Fredericksburg, Va. died unexpectedly on Friday, August 24. He was 53. Eddie dedicated his life to helping others, working and volunteering as a first responder since he was 15 years old. He served in the United States Air Force, New York City Fire Department, Horry County Emergency Services and was a Lieutenant in Georgetown County Fire/EMS. He served two years in Baghdad, Iraq. Member of the Peekskill Ambulance Corps and the Verplanck and Montrose Fire Departments since his teens. He was a graduate of Hendrick Hudson High School, Iona College, American Military University and Eastern Virginia College. Survived by his wife, Darcie Curtis Carter; mother Patricia Carter; and sisters Debra Costello, Sandra (Steven) Clausen and Michelle (Anthony) Verna; nieces and nephew Rachael (James) Patalano, Heather Clausen, Steven Clausen and Jamie Costello. Predeceased by his father, Edward F. Carter in 2010. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the EDWARD F. CARTER FUNERAL HOME, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 30 at St. Patrick's Church in Verplanck. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, also in Verplanck.
