Erin Marie Church, age 29, lost her lengthy battle with colon cancer on Friday, March 3, 2017. She was a patient at Sentara Hospice House in Virginia Beach for her final days.
Erin was a 2006 graduate of King George High School, and received her Associates Degree in Welding Technology from Tidewater Community College in 2008. She was particularly proud of receiving the Skills USA VICA Student of the Year Award from King George High School in June 2006.
Erin was a fully certified welder and had worked in the shipbuilding and ship repair industry in the Tidewater area for several years before being diagnosed with cancer.
Erin is survived by her 8-year-old son, Luke; her loving life partner, Chris Holzheimer of Virginia Beach; parents Mike and Sheila Church of King George, Va.; sister Sheryl Anderson of Portsmouth; sister Danielle and her husband Rob Nickison of Savannah, Ga.; brother Jason Church and partner Alexa of Newport News, Va.; four nieces and nephews, and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins located in Tennessee, Florida and Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Erin’s memory to the American Cancer Society, the Sentara Hospice House, 3760 Sentara Way, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23452, or the charity of your choice.
Erin’s specific desire was for close family to conduct a celebration of her life, plant a flowering tree in her honor, and continue with life as best as possible. The family will honor her wishes in the near future.
