Arthur Edward Gabler was born on February 24, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois. Art began working at age 12 and was happy to tell you he had at least 38 different jobs throughout his lifetime! Art served in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. It was at work where he met his wife, Eloise Pearl Willhite, and they were married in September, 1960. With two young daughters, Susan (Lovegrove) and Nancy (Showalter) in tow, Art began a series of public relations and real estate jobs which took them first to New York and then to Virginia. Eventually he and Eloise retired and moved to Fredericksburg in 2004. Art jumped right into community service, serving on Falls Run Community Board of Directors and Greater Falls Run Lions Club. He and Eloise loved spending time with their granddaughters, Madeline and Harper Lovegrove and Amanda Showalter. Art enjoyed his 90th birthday last month with his daughters, granddaughters and a few of his friends. He was a devoted husband and father, an asset to his community, and a fun guy to be around! Art's spirit lives on, but his body was cremated at Covenant Funeral. A memorial service will be held at a date to be determined. Please reach out to Nancy or Susan for details.
