Dianne M. Portner, 66, of King George County passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018. Dianne was the 1969 Virginia Soybean Queen. She was salutatorian of the 1970 Class of King George High School. Dianne received her bachelor's degree with honors from Virginia Tech where she was a member of the basketball team and a member of the Virginia Tech Techniques. She received her master's degree in secondary guidance counseling with honors from George Mason University. Dianne attended Round Hill Baptist Church. Dianne taught school for 37 years. She was a former biology teacher at Prince Edward County High School. She then taught science at King George Middle School and was the softball and track coach at King George High School. Later Dianne was a guidance counselor at Chancellor High School. Prior to retirement she was a physical education and driver education teacher at Courtland High School where she coached softball. Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Dale Portner; son Ryan Portner; two sisters, Barbara Morie Howe (John) and Vickie Morie Jordan (Karl); and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Ruth Morie. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 2 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 3 at the funeral home chapel. A reception will follow at Round Hill Baptist Church, 16519 Round HIll Rd., King George, Va. 22485.
