Outlook: A boys squad featuring 14 returning runners will give Colonial Forge a strong chance for a state title.

MASSAPONAX

Top newcomers: Boys—So. Carson Pugh, Fr. Carter Byrd. Girls—Fr. Lola Garvie.

Outlook: With a boys team that is relatively young, the Panthers’ goal is to improve times. The girls team returns two 5A state qualifiers in Serena McGowan and Kayla Kosco with the hope of adding to that total.

MOUNTAIN VIEW

Coach: Michael Porter

Last season: Boys, girls sixth in district. Boys second, girls third in region.

Top returners: Boys—Sr. Aidan Fritz, Sr. Anthony Solorzano, Sr. David Dittmer, Sr. Jorge Vargas, So. Noah Cahoon, So. Matt D’Lugos, So. Craig Swain. Girls—Sr. Grace Muratore, Sr. Emma Stockham, Sr. Sarah McCabe,. Jr. Samantha McKinnon, Jr. Grace Dausman, So. Catherine Dittmer, So. Bejah Simmons, So. Adalyn Perez.

Top newcomers: Boys—Sr. Adam Skoloda, So. Jackson Mehochko, So. William Fernegal. Girls—So. Laura Peterson, So, Karrington Owens, Fr. Emma Wunderly.

Outlook: Despite the graduation of all-state runner Henrik Anderson, the Wildcats have plenty of experience on both squads.

NORTH STAFFORD

Coaches: Brian Maynard (boys) and Erin Riley (girls).

Last season: Boys—fourth in region. Girls—Regional qualifier.

Top returners: Boys—Jr. Ryan Smith, Jr. Jordan Smith, Noah LeCain, Josh Webb. Girls—Sr. Hannah Morrison, So. Hailey Smith, Jr. Allue Isaacs.

Top newcomers: Girls—Fr. Nicole Wooten.

Outlook: The boys expect Noah LeCain and Josh Webb to help push the team over the hump and into the state meet. Senior Hannah Morrison and sophomore Hailey Smith lead a team that eyes a top-three region finish.

RIVERBEND

Coach: Cathy Binder

Last season: Boys second, girls fourth in district

Top returners: Boys—Sr. Dillon Fields, Jr. Josh Daggett, Jr. Dylan Soles. Girls—Sr. Aleigh Browning, Jr. Kendall Zywiak, So. Anna Jockin.

Top newcomers: Boys—Fr. Blake Fairbanks, Fr. Luke Jockin. Girls—Fr. Claire Hebertson, Fr. Maggie Carlson.

Outlook: Browning leads a girls team that is seeking a second straight trip to the state meet. Dillon is the top runner on a boys squad that has grown in numbers.

STAFFORD

Coach: Pete Augrom

Last season: Boys first in district, second in region, ninth in state. Girls second in district, third in region, ninth in state.

Top returners: Boys—Sr. Paul Sepulveda, Jr. Dalton Oylear, Jr. Nathan Notgrass, Jr. Jacob Polcha. Girls—Jr. Catherine Calvert, So. Shelby O’Dell, Jr. Katherine Oylear, Sr. Catherine Ramirez, Sr. Katerina Picadas.

Top newcomers: Boys—Fr. Justin Polcha, Sr. Wesley Burton, Fr. Kamren Reeces, Fr. Ben Putka. Girls—Jr. Zoi Bettes, Jr. Savannah Chavez, So. Kameryn Daniels.

Outlook: Sepulveda, who finished ninth in the state last year, leads a veteran boys team that will look to overcome the graduation of all-state Philip Lambert. The girls have a mix of youth and experience.

BATTLEFIELD DISTRICT

CAROLINE

Coaches: Ryan Schuyler and Johnny Duker

Last season: Boys seventh, girls sixth in district.

Top returners: Boys—So. Trevor Smith, Jr. Zachary Mosonyi.

Top newcomers: Boys-—Fr. Sean Kenny, 8th-grader Dominic Kettle.

Outlook: The Cavaliers are young and will look for improvement during the season.

CHANCELLOR

Coach: Sylvia Williams

Last season: Boys, girls fifth in district.

Top returners: Boys—Sr. Jordan Dixon, Sr. Jeremiah Chukwu, Sr. Cole Taylor, So. Tucker Snow. Girls—Jr. Madison Brown, Jr. Maya Cea-Lavin.

Top newcomers: Boys—Jr. Connor Adkins, Fr. Josh Fissel, Fr. Ryan Kwon. Girls—Fr. Enya Cea-Lavin, Jr. Antiove Veney, Jr. Christelle Temple.

Outlook: The Chargers are deep with seniors on both boys and girls team and will be competitive within the district.

COURTLAND

Coach: John Helsley

Last season: Boys second in district, third in region; girls third in district.

Top returners: Boys—Sr. Robert Guina, Sr. Caleb Delage, Sr. Jacob Houck, So. Kyle Ernandes. Girls—Sr. Carli Wadas, Sr. Lauren Stanitski, Sr. Carlyn Campbell, Jr. Abigail Howes.

Top newcomers: Boys—So. Matthew Spicer, Fr. Alex Sappenfield. Girls—Jr. Makaila Keyes, So. Lydia Spider.

Outlook: There are plenty of seniors leading both teams, with the boys poised to contend for the district title.

EASTERN VIEW

Coach: Paul Lutz

Last season: Boys, girls, fourth in district.

Top returners: Boys—Sr. Thomas Yates, Sr. Matt LaRosa, Sr. Wil Burton, So. Elijah Akbar, So. Mack Luckinbill. Girls—Sr. Kirstyn Gilyard.

Top newcomers: Boys—Sr. Connor Tull.

Outlook: The’ boys team is talented, though not deep, but should remain competitive in the region. Senior Kirstyn Gilyard should be one of the top performers in the region.

JAMES MONROE

Last season: Boys—first in district; second in Region 3B; sixth in State 3A. Girls—second in district; first in Region 3B; fifth in State 3A.

Top newcomers: Boys—Sr. Jeremy Kraisser, Jr. Matt Rose. Girls—So. Delanie Williams, So. Katie Ward.

Outlook: Senior state qualifier Abe Martinez leads a strong returning boys team. The girls lost five of their top eight runners from last season.

SPOTSYLVANIA

Outlook: Senior Ryan Maass returns after qualifying for state to lead a young boys team. The’ girls squad is thin with underclassmen looking to improve.

JEFFERSON DISTRICT

LOUISA

Coach: Jerry Cutright

ORANGE

Last season: Boys seventh, girls eighth in district.

Top returners: Boys—So. Ethan Pettyjohn, Sr. Bobby Lee, Sr. Chance Bowers, Sr. J.J. Faulkner, Jr. Thomas Bower, So. Latham Browning. Girls—Jr. Daisy Floyd, So. Kylie Trask.

Top newcomers: Boys—Sr. Elijah Suggs, So. Zachary Shipe, Fr. Ryder Rose. Girls—Fr. Olivia Knights, Fr. Kayla Balk, Jr. Abby Eckert.

Outlook: With perhaps the deepest team in school history, the boys team expects to compete for a state title. After losing their top three runners from last season, this will be a transitional year for the girls’ squad.

NORTHWESTERN DISTRICT

CULPEPER

Coaches: Mark Dennis (boys) and Aaron Keich (girls).

Last season: Boys third, girls fourth in district.

Top returners: Boys—Sr. Connor Flynn, Jr. Tyler Houston, Jr. Andrew Rogers, Jr. Austin Rogers. Girls—Sr. Paris Beaver, Jr. Kasey Mize, Jr. Amy Thelin.

Top newcomers: Boys_Jr. Brent Bowler, Jr. Colby Bush. Girls-—Fr. Madison Bebel.

Outlook: State qualifiers Flynn, Houston and Thelin give the Blue Devils a strong nucleus as they contend for district titles.

NORTHERN NECK DISTRICT

WASHINGTON & LEE

Coach: Cole Vanover (boys) and Cindy Flickinger (girls)

Last season: Boys—second in district, seveth in region.

Top returners: Boys—Sr. Dayton Combs, So. Corey Mumford. Girls—Sr. Jenifer Broglin, Jr. Celene King, Sr. Whitney Wade, Jr. Ashley Gilhuly.

Top newcomers: Boys—Fr. Conner Benson, Fr. William Luzier, Jr. Michael Perrigan. Girls--So. Abigail Sudduth.

Outlook: Broglin is shooting for her fourth straight all-state honor and leads a veteran girls team. The boys also hopr to be in the hunt for the Northern Neck District title.

PRIVATE SCHOOLS

FREDERICKSBURG ACADEMY

Coach: David Steinbergi

Last season: Boys fifth, girls third in Delaney Conference.

Top returners: Boys—Fr. Lowen Geldes. Girls—Fr. Parker Sims.

Top newcomers: Boys—Fr. Culeb Drupe.

Outlook: Parker Sims returns to the Falcon’s girls team after placing 28th out of 220 at state. The boys won the Foxcroft Invitational last year and will be among the top teams in the DAC.

FREDERICKSBURG CHRISTIAN

Coach: Chris Koehler

Last season: Boys third, girls fifth in Delaney Conference.

Top returners: Boys—Jr. Luke Smith, Fr. Jack Almy. Girls—Jr. Frankie Veale, Jr. Eden Ambrose.

Top newcomers: Boys—Jr. Nathan Griffin, Jr. Owen Morris. Girls—8th-grader Trynity Zuniga.

Outlook: Both squads are shooting for top-five conference finishes.
