Julia Albert and Allison Davis each had five goals to pace the University of Mary Washington women’s lacrosse team to a 19–7 victory over visiting Roanoke College on Saturday at the campus’ Battleground Athletic Complex.
After the Maroons took an initial 1–0 lead, the Eagles scored six unanswered goals to take command of the contest.
Mackenzie Mcguire had four assists and Rylie Cole made four saves in goal for the Eagles (7–1), who next travel to Stephenson College on Wednesday.
TRACK AND FIELD
Jean Woodrum won two individual events at the UMW Opener at the Battleground Athletic Complex.
Woodrum won the women’s discus (36.24 meters) and the women’s hammer (39.66 meters).
Other Eagle champions were: Jackie Smith, women’s javelin (34.84 meters); Rayna Smith, women’s high jump (1.52 meters); and Rajai Walton, men’s long jump (6.86 meters).
Second-place finishers included: Walton, men’s high jump (1.98 meters), Ripken Smith, men’s hammer (47.9 meters); Tristan Johnson, men’s discus (41.76 meters); Erin Andrewlevich, women’s 200 (25.71); and the women’s 400 relay (51.53).The Eagles will next compete at Goucher Invitational at Towson, Md.
The Eagles ran into a buzzsaw of dominant pitching as they were swept in their CAC opener at Salisbury, falling 8–2 and 18–3.
Tyler Ray hit a solo homer in the first game and Marcel Bennett drove in two runs in the nightcap for UMW (3–6, 0–2 CAC), which closes out the series with Salisbury on Sunday.

Jamie Putrell allowed only two runs (one unearned), but the Eagles couldn’t mount any offense and dropped an 2–0 opening game against host Lynchburg, which routed UMW in the nightcap, 13–3. The Eagles (7–8) host Gettysburg College on Saturday at noon.

Rachel Summers and Lauren Quinn won their doubles match while Danielle Mirabella and Rachel Cooper triumphed in singles play, but the 19th-ranked Eagles fell 5–4 to visiting No. 38 Southwestern (Texas) University.

Matt Miles, Patrick Hughes and Derek Hagino each won their singles and doubles matches to help the 13th-ranked Eagles post a 7–2 victory over visiting Washington & Lee.
The Eagles (6–3) will host Centre and visit St. Mary’s College on Wednesday.
