Massaponax, Spotsylvania and Culpeper would move up in classification and Orange will move down next fall under the Virginia High School League’s recommended 2019–23 realignment plan.

Barring an appeal, Massaponax will join Colonial Forge and Riverbend in Region 6B in the fall of 2019, under the plan announced by the VHSL this week. The Panthers currently compete in Region 5D and will do so again for the 2018–19 school year.

Orange and Spotsylvania will be members of Region 4B. The Hornets will drop from Region 5D, while the Knights will move up from Region 3B, based on projected enrollment figures. Culpeper also will move up from 3B to 4C.

The moves will be in effect from 2019 through 2023. All other local schools will remain in their current regions, and the reclassification will not affect any local school’s district membership.

Schools have until July 11 to appeal to the VHSL. Any appeals will be heard on Aug. 21.
