ZACK WAJSGRAS/THE DAILY PROGRESS Virginia forward Mamadi Diakite (25) takes a deep shot in the first half at the KFC Yum! Center on Saturday. Virginia went into the half behind 30-29.

The defending national champion Virginia men’s basketball team will face Purdue in the 2019 Big Ten/ACC Challenge, ESPN announced on Thursday.

The game will be a rematch of this past season’s classic Elite Eight game in Louisville, which the Cavaliers won 80-75 in overtime. In that game, Virginia guard Kihei Clark raced down a long rebound following a missed free throw from Ty Jerome in the final seconds and passed to forward Mamadi Diakite, who hit a shot at the buzzer to force overtime. The basket helped the Cavaliers overcome a 42-point effort from Purdue guard Carsen Edwards.

Clark and Diakite will be on the court for the Cavaliers again this season when they take on the Boilermakers in West Lafayette, Indiana, on Dec. 4, but many of the key players from last season’s game will not. Edwards along with Jerome and fellow Virginia guards De’Andre Hunter and Kyle Guy all declared for the NBA Draft.
